Orange County Realtors and top listing agents across the country know that clutter is something that can ruin the chances of a home selling quickly because, clutter gets in the way and can make any home feel a lot smaller than it really is.

If you’ve been thinking of selling your home in 2018, one of the biggest things you can do is take steps to remove your homes clutter and get it organized.

A Place For Everything

The key to success with removing clutter in a home is to make sure that there’s a place for everything in the home. This can be done by purchasing baskets, plastic drawers, closet and drawer organizers from your local stores like Wal-Mart, Target or Big Lots to make sure that your treasured possessions have a place when you are ready to put them away after using them.

Contrary to public opinion, you don’t have to pay thousands of dollars to organize your home. You can buy all of the supplies that you need at stores in your local area for under $1,000 and there are plenty of organization ideas online.

Take An Honest Look At Every Room

Spend one day going through each room in your home and evaluate the contents of each room by placing the room’s contents into three piles:

  • Items used regularly
  • Items used monthly
  • Items used longer than three months ago

All of the items in a room that you use regularly should be placed out in the open so you can easily continue using those items when needed whereas items used monthly should be placed in drawers and in closets.

For those items that were last used three months ago or longer, you should box them up and place them in your garage or have a garage sale to sell those items. If you haven’t used something in a long time, it’s a good sign that you won’t be using it for the near future and you should consider storing or selling it because, this will help to make that room in your house look bigger.
