The Importance Of A Checklist When Buying A Home
You probably think you are ready to buy a home in Orange County, but have you really done your “homework”? If not, you should have a checklist ready to insure that you complete each part of the home buying process the right way from start to finish.
Why a Checklist Is Important
As with airline pilots who use “pre-flight checklists”, you need a checklist to insure that you navigate every aspect of buying a home because your home will probably represent the biggest financial transaction in your life, and you want to live in a home that you will really love.
Sample Home Buyer Checklist
#1 – Check Your Credit Reports – You are entitled to one free credit report from each of the three bureaus each year. Otherwise, you can buy your 3-in-1 credit reports online.
#2 – Strengthen Your Credit By Paying Off Old Bills and removing negative items from your credit report.
#3 – Save Money for the Down Payment and Closing Costs.
#4 – Set Aside At Least Three to Six Months’ Worth of Mortgage Payments – Lenders want to see that you’re not living paycheck to paycheck and have plenty of money saved beyond what you need to buy a home.
#5 – Get Pre-Approved For a Mortgage – This will help you to know what you can really afford in a home.
#6 – Know what you’re searching for in a Home – Example: Bedrooms, Bathrooms, Location and Square feet.
#7 – Hire A Real Estate Agent.
