Yes, you should make repairs to your home before attempting to sell it because, buyers will almost always submit a lower offer to the seller that’s far below the actual cost of the repairs so you could ultimately lose more on your home than you anticipated because, you didn’t take the time to spend the money, time or effort on dealing with those nagging home repairs yourself.

Return on Investment

Another reason why you should make repairs to your home now rather than listing it “as is” is because you can quickly get a return on your investment in your home if you fix it up and make repairs just before selling it.

What Repairs Should You Make Before Selling?

The first areas of your home that you should make repairs to, before selling it, are the entry points to your home, including screen doors. If a buyer walks through a front door or entry door that’s damaged and needs repair, this will make them wonder what other areas of your home need to be repaired. In many cases repairs to entry doors are as simple as spending the weekend sanding and painting them. You can also replace screen doors yourself and have all entry doors ready for the day when potential buyers show up to see your home.

Patch Up Those Walls

Another easy repair that you can make yourself is patching up the walls in your home that have holes then repaint those walls neutral colors because, neutral colors will make the buyer see your home as a “blank canvas” and envision themselves living there.

Clean You’re Gutters

Even though it doesn’t rain a lot in Orange County you should still take the time to clean your gutters and caulk them if needed. Damaged gutters that are in need of repair are another easy fix that any homeowner can make and they will eliminate any chance of the buyer thinking about what other repairs your home might need when they are looking at your gutters.
