    What Questions to Ask When Hiring A Realtor – Part 1

    It doesn’t matter if you’ve bought a home before or not, it’s an exciting time of life because you finally will be able to upgrade from your current home size, or downsize if you want.

    Before you can actually buy your next home you first have to hire a qualified Realtor to help you navigate the sometimes complicated waters of the home buying process.

    In part one of a two part series we’re going to cover the most important questions that you should ask a Realtor before choosing them to help you find and purchase the home of your dreams.

    Question 1 – Do you work with buyers more than sellers?  

    This question is important because Real Estate agents in Orange County, and across the United States, who only work with sellers will have the entire focus of their business tapered towards just representing sellers alone instead of having the resources to help qualified buyers as well during their home search. A high performing team will have people who specialize in each area of a transaction, so you may deal with one agent while listing your home and a buyer specialist while you search for a new one.

    Question 2 – Which neighborhoods do you specialize in?

    Let’s say you want to buy a home in Irvine but you choose a Realtor who only has experience with other areas like: San Juan Capistrano, Yorba Linda, or Cypress. You want to hire a Realtor who has experience with buying and or selling homes in the neighborhood that you want to move to because they will be able to thoroughly provide you with the best service and expertise since they know the area that you want to live. Anyone can look up general information on an area, but the expertise of a neighborhood specialist can tell you what the feel of a neighborhood is like and what the hidden gems are in the area.

    Question 3 – Will I be working directly with you?

    This is a question that’s frequently asked and an important one. We have a specialist in each area of the transaction including a showing specialist, a buyer specialist, listing agent, and marketing coordinator. Each person is an expert in their particular area. While you will have a dedicated contact, there are multiple people behind the scenes working hard to make your new home purchase or sale go as smoothly as possible.

    Question 4 – Is Real Estate the only thing you do for work?

    Last of all, but most important, when choosing a Realtor it’s important to verify if they only work in Real Estate as their career and don’t have side jobs or ventures elsewhere. Working with a Realtor who is only focused on Real Estate every day means that you will be partnering with someone who is serious and dedicated towards really earning your business.
