How to Prevent Sellers Remorse When Selling Your Home

In Real Estate one of the most common problems people experience is seller’s remorse. This feeling typically pops up after a seller sells their home and moves on to owning another property.

Seller’s remorse is common feeling because it’s easy for some people to wish they still lived in their former home or to wish that they had sold it for more money but the good news is that this feeling is avoidable by following these tips.

#1 – Detach Yourself Emotionally From Your Home  Sellers Remorse

Before listing your home you should detach yourself emotionally from it by removing your personal photos, artwork and nick knacks.

Next, you should go through each room and remove the personalized decorating choices you’ve made in over the years like furnishings and décor then replace the decorating and personalization with neutral colors or tones.

Your goal should be to turn your home into a ‘product’ that has to be sold because, if you view your home as more of a product, versus your treasured family home, it will be easier to move on emotionally to buying your next home.

#2 – Research Area Home Prices Before Pricing Your Home

Go online and research area home prices to find out what other home owners are asking for their homes, and if you feel adventurous you should visit those houses to see what they have to offer.

After doing a little price research yourself you should hire a qualified Realtor® because they will do comparable research then give you a clear idea of what you should price your home for so you don’t sell it for less than what it’s worth.

#3 – Clean Your Home Thoroughly Before Listing It

Last of all, but most important, before your agent lists your home for sale you should clean it thoroughly and fix anything that’s broken or in need of repair in your home because you don’t want a buyer to walk into your house if it’s dirty or in need of repair because this will cause them to wonder: “what else is wrong with this home?”
