Planning on selling your home in 2013? You’re not alone. It doesn’t matter if you live in Orange County or anywhere in the United States, selling a home is a smart move, especially if you plan on upgrading to a new home due to a life event. Beware though, because you have to employ the right strategy to get the job done right or your home may sit on the market for longer than you expected.
In the first part of this two part series we’re going to cover simple tips that will help you to sell your home and be ready to move onto the next home of your dreams.
Remove The Personal Touches From Your Home
You may not like the idea of taking down your favorite art from your home or removing the dozens of other personal touches but this step is one of the most important and a step that should be done. The sooner you begin to see your home as a “product” that must be sold, just like a car, the quicker you will be able to sell your home and move on with your life.
Instead of removing all of the personal touches from your home in one weekend, do it gradually, in steps, and take the time to remember each memory as you are preparing your home for sale.
This step is especially important if you have children because, you want them to remember the good times in your home as you are in the process of making new memories. By removing everything too quickly, it may cause undue stress since children tend to cope differently with change than adults do.
Remove The Clutter As Soon As Possible
During the process of re-personalizing your home you should also be removing as much clutter as possible because, this will help the rooms in your home to look bigger, more organized and help your home to be more appealing to potential home buyers.
To aid in the process of removing clutter, you should consider having a big yard sale at least two weekends before your first open house or you should rent a storage unit in your local area to store your items before your home sells.
